About Alan Johnson:
I spent 44 years working as a print journalist for newspapers and enjoyed (almost) every single minute of it. I relished the chance to tell stories, especially about people, their lives, accomplishments and sorrows.
In the last 18 years of my career, I was assigned to cover prisons and executions, which Ohio resumed in 1999 after a 36-year absence. I was a witness at 21 executions and wrote about dozens of others. This experience, coupled with my late-in-life seminary studies, became the motivation to write my first book.
I retired in 2017 but continue working as a contract writer with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Ohio.
