David Stacks

By Sandra Joy

David Stacks is the director of the Texas Prison Museum, located in Huntsville, Texas. Mr. Stacks spent 30 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), beginning his career as a correctional officer at the Byrd Unit and retiring as the Deputy Director of the prison system. David Stacks worked as a warden with TDCJ at the Walls Unit for 7 years (from 2002-2009) and during that time he stated that he witnessed "more executions than I can remember."

On February 14, 2023 David Stacks provided me with a tour of the Texas Prison Museum and sat down with me there, allowing me  to interview him about his experiences serving as a witness at numerous executions at the Walls Unit in Huntsville, Texas.

Click on the above link to see a video of Mr. Stacks' reflections of his career within the TDCJ, as he emphasizes the importance of treating the incarcerated in a humane manner.
