Gary Drinkard was exonerated from Alabama's death row in 2001, after he sat on death row for approximately 5 years. During his time on death row, he witnessed several men who he had grown close to make their final walk to the death chamber. The trauma that he felt from losing those friends to execution, fearful that he could meet the same horrific fate, has only been exacerbated over the last couple of decades each time one of the men he left behind on Alabama's death row is executed.
